Winter Sports at Bay Venues

Winter sports doesn’t have to mean standing on a muddy sideline getting soaked by the rain!

At Bay Venues we like to move it indoors in winter, keeping active and keeping warm.

We’ve got a range of sporting options for the young and young at heart:

Winter Sports Leagues
As the weather is starting to turn cold and rainy, now is the perfect time to join a netball or football league at Trustpower Arena or the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre. You can catch up with your mates over a friendly game and stay active. You’ll be having so much fun you won't even know you are breaking a sweat!

May leagues are starting now so check out the BayActive website for dates and to book online.

Free Floorball
Every Saturday in May & June from 4 till 6pm you’ll find free Floorball at Trustpower Arena. The BayActive team provide all the gear needed to play, all you need to do is show up!

Floorball is a version of hockey played indoors, within a 50cm high boarded rink, and with a specific type of hockey stick and lightweight plastic ball with holes. Floorball is easy to learn, requires minimal skill and is fast paced but safe. It’s growing in popularity all over the world and is suitable for ages 10 years & older.

Impact Gymsport Academy
At Trustpower Baypark you’ll find the home of Impact Gymsport, who provide high quality recreational gymnastics programs and events for children. Their classes are designed to improve each gymnast’s motor skills, coordination, physical confidence, and self-esteem. There are classes for all levels, from beginner to competitive. For more information visit impactgymsport.co.nz.

Club Sports
In our sports centres, community centres and halls, there are plenty of sports and exercise groups meeting over winter who are always interested in new members. You’ll find everything from yoga, Pilates, and dance (Zumba, Salsa, Tango & Irish Dancing) to martial arts (Judo, Karate & Taekwondo), indoor bowls and badminton. There are even roller-skating clubs!

For more information visit bayvenues.co.nz and check out the regular activities by venues for contact details.

Magic Netball
If you’d prefer to participate in sport from the sidelines, grab tickets to the upcoming ANZ Premiership netball games being played at Trustpower Arena this month. The might Magic’s will be taking on the Robinhood Stars on May 17 and the Northern Mystics on May 24. For more information visit trustpowerbaypark.co.nz.

Going Solo
If joining a team isn’t really your style, there’s also the option to join a gym in winter or take up lane swimming at Bay Venues three aquatic facilities – Baywave, Greerton Aquatic Centre & Otumoetai Pool.

Looking for a gym? Check out Clubfit’s May Promotion. They are waiving their joining fee this month and you’ll find their no fixed term contracts mean you aren’t locked into paying for a gym membership you don’t use. If you stick it out that’s great and the Clubfit team will be there to help you every step on the way. But if you decide come summer that you’d prefer to move your workouts back outside – no problem!

The most important thing this winter is to find a way to keep active no matter the weather!
